Though it should come as no surprise that our lawyers are subject matter specialists, they are also business-savvy and strive to offer guidance that is pragmatic and helpful. Many of them received their legal training from us, while others were carefully chosen from prestigious city firms or have gained extensive experience in industry to become nationally-recognised authorities in their respective fields.

Simon Holland

Simon joined Spencer & Browne in 2016 as a Senior Partner in our Commercial Property team. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1991. Simon is an expert advisor for institutional, corporate, and private clients, both domestically and abroad, on the full spectrum of commercial property concerns.

Richard Fortescue

Richard is recognised as a leading expert in his field by leading legal directory, Auditoria. Richard joined our Corporate Finance team as a Partner in 2009. He specialises in banking and insolvency, and has substantial experience in purchases and sales, venture capital and corporate restructurings.

Steven Calvert

Steven joined our Commercial Property Team in 2011, having spent 10 years previously at a leading City firm. He has significant experience of advising on commercial property interests, particularly for long and ultra-long term holders of investment properties, including landed estates, livery companies and similar associations.

Katya Harington

Katya joined the Tax, Trust and Estate Planning team at Spencer & Browne in 2013. Katya handles all aspects of residential property conveyancing, including purchases, sales, transfers of equity and remortgages. Prior to working for us, Katya spent 7 years as a principle tax consultant at the Belgian embassy.

Alex Browne

Our youngest ever partner at only nineteen years of age, Alex holds an AS-level in Law and, during the course of two summer internships, has amassed extensive experience in wealth management, personal and commercial tax, and inheritance.

Trainee Solicitor

Esther Bailey

Esther joined Spencer & Browne in 2017, and completed the Legal Practice Course in the same year. Esther specialises in development work and investment in the London high-end residential property market. This includes the preparation of contract packs, and handling Land Registry applications and Stamp Duty.

Paralegal

Marcus Talbot

Marcus joined Spencer & Browne as a paralegal in 2021. Marcus assists the team with various aspects of new build developments, including site set-up arrangements, infrastructure easement, transfers of land to management companies etc. Marcus is currently working towards his CILEX qualification.

Jay Nitesh

Jay is a Hindi-speaking property lawyer. Jay joined Spencer & Browne in 2019, having qualified as a solicitor one year prior. His expertise includes sales and acquisitions, landlord and tenant matters, secured lending and general property management (both residential and commercial).

Office Manager

Gemma Packard

Gemma joined us in 2012, having previously worked as Office Manager for a global brokerage firm. Gemma is responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the office, including provision of administrative and organisational support. Gemma also handles expenses and diary management for Partners and Senior Partners.

Paralegal

Emile Johnson

Emile has a lifetime of experience in property law, specialising in land disputes, adverse possession, and high-value residential sales. Having joined Spencer & Browne in 1983, Emile is currently our longest serving colleague, and hopes to begin his training contract in the next year.
