As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a copy editor. The plain perpetuity of the printed word—puce mantras pointing at the pure infinity of the possible... In June of 1994, I vowed to abandon my cobra-specific activities and focus on copy editing full-time.
When I slithered off into that fateful evening's sunset, I felt a swirling dizziness as I dreamt of the cobra I might one day become. Nearly three decades, half a billion words, and countless clients later—I still feel, faintly, that familiar, swirling sensation.
